Clinker or cement: when importing clinker makes sense
Clinker is cement before the last step. For markets with grinding capacity, importing it instead of finished cement can lower costs and keep value at home.

Overview
Oman and the wider Gulf have clinker capacity well beyond local demand. We buy clinker from integrated cement plants and supply grinding units in East Africa, South Asia and the Indian Ocean islands, where it is ground with gypsum into finished cement.
The chemical and physical specification is agreed before a cargo is fixed, and every shipment is sampled and analysed at the loading port. Cargoes move in bulk on handysize and supramax vessels, typically in parcels of 25,000 to 60,000 tonnes.
